Nature and Nurture

Use CoCo’s many natural resources to nurture your family and your soul. Spend the day just enjoying the great outdoors with family and friends at one of these natural pursuits.

  • Water fun at Clarks Hill Lake, the largest man-made Corps of Engineers lake east of the Mississippi River. You can picnic, swim, boat, fish, and just visit with family at Columbia County’s 975-acre Wildwood Park. If you get caught in a jam, Hayes Marine provides on-lake service for your boat…just call 706.541.9111
  • Enjoy a round of Golf or Disc Golf at one of Columbia County’s courses located at Patriot’s Park or Wildwood Park.
  • Outdoor education and information at the Reed Creek Wetlands Interpretive Center. Walking on the tree-shaded boardwalks on a sunny afternoon is the perfect way to get back to nature.
  • Spend a weekend away while you’re still “in town” and rent a cottage at Mistletoe State Park.
  • Make plans for a look at Heggie’s Rock, a large granite outcropping from the same vein as Stone Mountain (only available to small groups with advance reservations)
  • A Petersburg Boat Tour of the Augusta Canal with a visit to the Interpretive Center. You can also, bike, hike or walk the canal tow path or rent a canoe or kayak and float down the Canal on your own.
  • Get back in the saddle at Canterbury Trails Equestrian Center
  • Explore the Bartram Trail, following the path of William Bartram, America’s first native born naturalist/artist and the first author in the modern genre of writers who portrayed nature through personal experience as well as scientific observation.
  • Participate in the annual Best Dam Ride held each April to benefit the Southeastern Firefighters Burn Foundation. The ride includes three different courses to meet every skill level.
